10th and Luke: A Sacred Youth Musical

Commissioned in 2004 by the Bryn Mawr Presbyterian Church (Pennsylvania), 10th and Luke is a contemporary musical adaptation of the Good Samaritan story (found in the Gospel of Luke, chapter 10.) Orchestration
  • flute, horn in F, trumpet in C, 2 or 3 percussion, cello, and piano
  • percussion: drum set, woodblocks, conga, snare drum, djembé, shaker, shakeré, suspended cymbal, tambourine, glockenspiel, triangle

Train Station Scene:
In this scene, Summer finds herself in a strange train station. Eventually,
she is accosted by a gang of homeless people led by the charismatic Buddy.
Summer is frightened of these dirty poor band of bums, and tries to escape
their attention.

Show You the Town :
Smooth-talking Floyd comes to Summer's rescue in the train station. He brushes
off Buddy and his homeless gang, and promises to show Summer a good time on
the town.

Please Take My Cane:
Upon finding Summer injured on the side of the road, Buddy lends her a
hand, and his walking cane.
