About the Composer

Andrew Bleckner is a contemporary composer whose work explores the vibrant intersection of lyrical vocal traditions and kinetic rhythmic energy. Specializing in choral music, he is best known for his "signature sound"—a compelling blend of sacred Hebrew and English texts set alongside the intricate, driving polyrhythms of West African percussion.

His compositions range from ethereal, meditative soundscapes like The Silence to exuberant, rhythmically-driven celebrations such as Psalm 150. With a background spanning the concert hall and musical theater (including NYC productions such as Pigeon Boys), Bleckner’s music is characterized by its emotional honesty and clear text-setting.

A dedicated collaborator, he frequently works with collegiate and professional ensembles to bridge cultural traditions through the power of the human voice and the pulse of the drum. Bleckner holds a DMA from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied with George Crumb, and his works are published by Boosey & Hawkes, Alliance, and Hal Leonard.
